Question from the user

Auscultation and diagnosis

Again, the problem with this plant comes from watering. Remember that the symptoms of excess or lack of water are the same, namely yellowing and drying out of the leaves. Here, the excess water has certainly caused a rotting of the roots which are therefore no longer able to feed the leaves. In addition, basil is a fairly fragile plant which fears the strong alternations of temperatures as we have known recently. These two factors combined therefore encouraged the appearance of rot.

Some recommendations

Above all, avoid taking out your basil too early. Wait until May, when the weather becomes milder. Indeed, basil is a thermophilic plant, that is to say that it likes hot soils and water, but without excess. Take care to provide it with a well-drained substrate. For this, do not hesitate to mix your soil with a little sand and place a bed of clay at the bottom of the pot. Water in the cups is also strongly discouraged. For information, note that basil with small leaves is more resistant than basil with large leaves. By following these tips, the basil should regain its shape and perfectly accompany your dishes during the summer period. Good salad! You too, ask your questions at The Plant Clinic!
